Editorial review

Authors submitting an article for possible publication in Debate Feminista must send — complete and in its final version — the documentation indicated in the author guidelines, under the section: requirements for submitting manuscripts, as well as the signed and scanned commitment letter form, available at this link.

The Editorial Committee will first review whether the submission meets the following requirements:

  • Thematic relevance with respect to the journal's focus and scope.
  • Compliance with the formal and methodological guidelines established in the editorial norms.
  • Originality of the contribution and explicit declaration that the work has not been simultaneously submitted to another journal nor disseminated through other channels.
  • Observance of ethical research practices and absence of plagiarism.

As part of this initial review, manuscripts are subjected to similarity control using specialized software (iThenticate). Works presenting a high percentage of similarity with other published texts or available online may be rejected.

Only manuscripts that pass this selection phase or editorial review will be forwarded to academic peer review.

Academic Review

The academic review process will be conducted under a double-blind peer review modality, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers will remain anonymous.

Articles will be sent to two or more specialists in the discipline and subject matter of the submitted text, selected from a portfolio of national and international referees. Reviewers will evaluate each work considering its academic, theoretical, and methodological relevance, the consistency of the contributions with the field of study, the relevance of the findings, and the currency of the bibliography. This evaluation will be carried out based on the review form available at this link.

In case of contradictory reviews, the journal reserves the right to publish or not a text, or to request a third review if deemed necessary.

The possible resolutions are:

  • Publishable without modifications.
  • Publishable with minor recommendations, which do not require a second review.
  • Publishable with substantial changes, requiring a new review round by the reviewers.
  • Not publishable.

The Editorial Committee will notify the corresponding author of the review results, provide reviewers’ comments, and request, if applicable, the submission of a revised version of the manuscript within a specified period, accompanied by a letter detailing the changes made or, in the case of unaddressed observations, providing justification.

In case of disagreement with the review results, Debate Feminista will request the author to submit a reasoned document regarding the decision, which will be referred to the Editorial Committee. The Committee’s decision will be final.

Acceptance and Publication

For a manuscript to be approved for publication, at least two positive reviews are required.

Once accepted, the article will enter the editorial production phase, which includes: copyediting, metadata preparation, formatting, file tagging for digital dissemination, and DOI assignment.

The Debate Feminista editorial office will inform authors about each stage of the editorial process and notify them of their articles’ status. The journal will issue formal communications to authors in the following phases of the editorial process:

  • Receipt of the manuscript
  • Acceptance or rejection in the first filter
  • Results of academic reviews
  • In-press status, at the moment of acceptance for publication
  • Published status, at the time of print and online publication

Authors agree that, if approved, the article will be published in full text on the journal’s website. Debate Feminista respects each author’s right to subsequently publish their work in other media, provided that the original publication in Debate Feminista is explicitly acknowledged and the full bibliographic reference is provided.

The estimated timeframe for evaluation and publication processes is eight months from the submission of the manuscript in our editorial management system.
