Abstract

The term “post-feminism” has had multiple, contradictory uses in the academic circuit and the Anglo-American media. Although the phenomenon it denotes has expanded beyond the borders of the social, cultural, economic, political and geographical context in which it originates, papers dealing with this issue in the Spanish-speaking world are virtually nonexistent. This article seeks to fill this gap. I present the contours of post-feminism as an analytical concept and attempt to show that the theoretical potential of the term “post-feminism” is only revealed if it is understood as a regime of female subjectivity with global influence intrinsically linked to capitalism and the neoliberal ethos, which incorporates spectacular femininity and hypersexualization, puts “the coloniality of gender” into action and reinforces patriarchy rather than destabilizing it
