Thinking Bareback: Sexuality and Negativity in Queer Antisocial Theory
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article explores the contemporary antisocial queer thesis. It emphasizes the call for the radicalization of criticism, outlined by Guy Hocquenghem and detailed by Leo Bersani and Lee Edelman, who have opted for a psychoanalytic conception of sexuality that does not recognize linguistic, identity or community mediations when it comes to containing desire, fantasy, or the death drive. As an epistemological figuration that enables us to reflect on the restoration of queer anti-normative power, it presents Tim Dean’s inquiries into Bareback (unprotected sexual practice, in which the eroticization of HIV infection plays a key role, whether phantasmatically or literally). Far from adopting a pathologizing perspective, it reflects on the perverse core of sexuality, in any of its forms, and on the irreducible limits it imposes on reason.
