Mental health professionals and their relationship with homo-parental families in Mexico
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this paper, we examine the positions from which mental health professionals guide their work with LGBT families in Mexico. We explore professionals’ interventions in schools, adoption agencies and private clinics. On the basis of qualitative methodology, we conclude that it is possible to characterize the type of interventions they have with these families: their approaches tend to emphasize the pathological, the antisocial and the psychologizing, resulting in an epistemology and a practice that contribute very little to the mental health of this group.
